The purpose of a national reference system is to have a common national reference for maps and geodata.

The standard reference system in Denmark is ETRS89 and the height system is DVR90 (Danish Vertical Reference 1990). The standard map projection is UTM/ETRS89 zone 32 and 33.

In Greenland the standard reference system is GR96 (Greenland Reference System 1996). The heigt system for practical use is locally defined systems in each town or settlement. The standard map projection is UTM/GR96. Greenland is covering zone 19 to 28, but for practical purposes only a few of the zones are used.
